In addition to a new baby T. rex display and 3-D Printer demonstrations there will be an “on-demand” program at the Carter County Museum to celebrate National Fossil Day called:
Pellets and Poops: Uncovering the past from the other end
Older Participants-
Today you will be playing the role of a paleontologist or biologist studying the diet of the local owls in Carter County!
Your mission is to identify what these owls have been eating and complete the food web diagram. You will be given an assortment of owl pellets, tools, bone identification kit, and with the help of an instructor or guide, you must determine what the owls have been eating as well as fill in the arrows of the food web.
Younger Participants-
Today you are a paleontologist studying the diet of dinosaurs! The museum has discovered many coprolites in the Hell Creek Formation. You are trying to figure out what is preserved in these coprolites and what animal they belong to. You will be given a knife, tweezers, and fossil guide to dissect the coprolites and extract what data is locked inside your dinosaur poop!
