DESCRIPTION:As part of the festivities leading up to the Carter County Museum’s 14th Annual Dino Shindig\, Dinosaurs & Dark Skies invites visitors to Medicine Rocks State Park (Montana’s first International Dark Sky Sanctuary) for a night of stargazing and fossil phosphorescence. Join us at the Night Sky Trail and bring a folding chair and warm clothing. We will provide telescopes and red-light flashlights for wayfinding.\nThere will be a Bat Walk preceding the event at 9 p.m.\n(Co-hosted with Montana Fish\, Wildlife\, & Parks)

SUMMARY:14th Annual Dino Shindig\, Carter County Museum
DESCRIPTION:Named Montana’s Event of the Year by the Office of Tourism and Business Development\, the Annual Dino Shindig takes place at the end of July. Visitors travel from all over the world to hear lectures from leading paleontologists\, partake in kids activities\, and dance the night away. Talks and kid’s activities on July 25 are $10 for adults and $7 for kids (under 13)\, on sale at the Carter County Museum during the event.\nThe Annual Dino Shindig Auction includes a silent auction that runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth Lutheran Church (where the talks are located). The Live Auction will begin after the talks at 4:30 p.m.\nSunday offers a Fossil Field Dig Expedition to sites around the area from 8:30 am-5 pm. Tickets go on sale in January each year/currently SOLD OUT. Also Sunday is the Science and Cultural History Gathering at Medicine Rocks State Park\, a short drive north of Ekalaka\, from 10 am-2 pm (or so).\nA full schedule of events will be posted on July 1\, 2026!

SUMMARY:Camp Clades and Spades with Montana Learning Center\, Carter County Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Helena-based Montana Learning Center partners with Carter County Museum in Ekalaka\, MT each August for a unique camping experience. This adventure includes two days of field expeditions to active paleontological dig sites in the Hell Creek Formation\, where campers will engage in dinosaur fossil excavation\, microsite identification\, plant fossil harvesting\, amber collection and more. In addition to the activities at the fossil dig sites\, campers will tour Carter County Museum\, sort material collected in the field\, learn the basics of fossil preparation and prepare fossils they gathered at the digs for display in the Museum.
